Chinese Sunward began excavator manufacturing partnership in Finland
One of China’s most significant excavator manufacturer Sunward, is transferring it’s European market aimed machine manufacturing to Finnish contract manufacturer Walpella.
Ten years on the European market, Sunward produces aproximately 10 000 excavators a year. Over the last decade, the company has supplied several hunders of excavators to the Finnish market. Walpella’s part of the contract means manufacturing hundreds of excavators a year and long-term development cooperation.
In the first stage the company’s 10 smaller excavator models are manufactured in Tampere. Later this year the product range manufactured in Finland will expand to include larger models.
The partnership between Walpella and Sunward is based on Walpella’s expertise in manufacturing and product development together with production efficiency. The partnership enables Sunward to offer its clients a European product at the lowest price on the market. In Finland, Sunward’s products are resold by Maspart Oy.
The open-ended partnership contract’s effect on employment is about 10-20 person-years. The manufacturing takes place in Walpella’s units in Tampere and Valkeakoski. Spare parts service and maintenance is centralized in the Tampere unit. Spare parts are also supplied via Walpellas reseller Maspart’s network.
